Anxiety Disorders: Differential diagnosis & treatment

CPD courses & hours for psychologists in New Zealand

New Zealand psychologists, deepen your expertise in anxiety disorders. This course by Dr.

In this clinically focused talk, Dr. Colinda Linde provides a clear and practical framework for identifying, differentiating, and treating common anxiety disorders. Using a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) lens, Dr. Linde explores the complex interplay between anxiety, depression, and burnout—offering insights into why accurate diagnosis is essential to effective intervention.

Through detailed clinical discussion, participants will learn how to recognise and distinguish among Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Health Anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and symptoms of burnout and depression. Dr. Linde also shares helpful techniques for managing diagnostic complexity, including when clients may mask or minimise symptoms due to fear or avoidance.

A case study of a teenage client illustrates how anxiety can present over time and within systems, offering practical guidance on treatment planning. The session concludes with evidence-based CBT strategies, and a discussion of when medication may enhance therapeutic outcomes
