Gender-Based Violence: Towards an understanding of causes & prevention

This thought-provoking CPD presentation explores the psychological underpinnings of gender-based violence (GBV), with a specific focus on understanding the individual perpetrator within a broader systemic context. While GBV can be analysed at cultural, structural, and community levels, this talk highlights the unique contribution psychology can make to understanding and addressing the problem.

Through a trauma-informed and evidence-based lens, the presentation considers how individual psychological factors - such as attachment history, emotion regulation difficulties, personality dynamics, and learned behaviours - interact with societal influences to produce violent outcomes.
